2017 Streaming Music Forecast

Fast Company put out an excellent article this week forecasting the top trends and changes for streaming music in 2017. They predict more chaos and innovation as the industry continues to adapt to the digital world, with the decline of physical sales and downloads increasing as streaming growth continues. According to the article. "This is good news for record execs, but what it means for artists and streaming platforms-which each have their own contractual relationships with labels-remains to be seen." Other predictions include: the disappearance of at least one major music service, the continuation of streaming exclusives, and the emergence of VR as the next wave of innovation.
