Writers Guild Strike Avoided

This week the Writer's Guild finally came to an agreement with writers and the studios, narrowly avoiding a strike that could have caused the industry millions. The deal reportedly negotiated about $15 million in residual increases for shows on streaming services, and increases in contributions to the guild's employer funded healthcare plan. According to the LA Times, "The compromises reflect a growing acknowledgment among top media executives that the TV industry has changed dramatically with the rise of streaming services and other forms of digital disruption - and that those changes haven't always benefited writers."
