With JOE BIDEN's inauguration ceremony coming up Wednesday, all federal prisons in the US have reportedly gone into lockdown, as a precaution against any potential violence that could arise behind bars ahead of or during the inauguration. “In light of current events occurring around the country, and out of an abundance of caution, the decision has been made to secure all institutions,” the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement. The lockdown began at midnight Saturday, but was not announced until after the inmates were locked in their cells Friday evening.
You probably didn't know that President-elect JOE BIDEN has a shelter dog called "Major," and yesterday (Sunday), the Delaware Humane Association and Pumpkin Pet Insurance got together to host an online “indoguration” ceremony marking the nation’s first-ever shelter dog in the White House.
After JOE BIDEN's inauguration there'll be a prime-time virtual celebration afterward on TV, with the lineup growing. Actor-playwright LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA, who wrote and starred in Broadway’s “Hamilton,” will appear for a classical recitation. Rockers JON BON JOVI and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN will join JOHN LEGEND, DEMI LOVATO and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. Actresses KERRY WASHINGTON and EVA LONGORIA will act as hostesses, and former NBA star KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR is also scheduled to appear for the celebration.
More COVID: The International Air Transport Association --the trade association for the world's airlines-- says the airline business needs another $70-$80 billion dollars to get through the lack of passengers caused by the coronavirus pandemic. They're hoping the various governments will issue the funds to get them through the pandemic. In case you're wondering, in 2020 there were about 1.8 billion passenger flights, instead of the 4.5 billion in 2019. And because of the lack of funds, between 30-to-40 smaller airlines have already disappeared.
Movie news: Warner Brothers says their new film, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” will be released March 26, two months ahead of schedule. In case you're not yet up to hitting theatres, Variety says you'll be able to catch it on HBO Max simultaneously as well.
