PlayStation 3 leads in Video Game Sales

For the first time ever, Sony's PlayStation 3 led all video game consoles in sales in September. Sony's platform more than doubled its sales from a year ago. As previously reported, "video game sales" were up in September due primarily to an increase in software sales. Hardware sales actually fell 6% compared to September 2008, dropping to $472 million dollars this September.

While the PS3 led in console sales, Nintendo's DS handheld unit was the overall winner in hardware sales for the month. Here are the top-selling systems for the month:
