TiVo has entered into an agreement with Google to permit TiVo's viewing data to be integrated into Google's TV Ads business. This is the latest in a long line of deals by TiVo to monetize its extensive research on audience flow and ad impressions. Originally known for its intuitive user interface and innovative features, TiVo struggled for a long time to make money with the service. The TiVo user subscription was not enough to put the company in the black, but the company eventually utilized its innovative spirit to create new forms of revenue.
For years TiVo has been collecting information based on its user base's viewing habits and patterns. Google is the latest TiVo partner to tap into their extensive database of information. For Google, the deal means more accurate viewing data, including second-by-second tuning information and viewer preferences.
