With profound sadness, we've chronicled in this space the severe difficulties facing the newspaper industry. Here is another unfortunate piece of evidence in this ongoing story. According to data <http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-workers-employed-in-newspaper-publishing-2009-12> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the newspaper industry has plummeted. Nationally, newspaper employment peaked at just over 450,000 people in 1990. Since then, the number has fallen to just over 250,000. The figure dropped by 75,000 between 2007 and 2009.
