A month ago Google announced its Nexus One Google Smartphone, the first to be branded as a "Google" phone, as opposed to merely using the Google-developed Android OS. The phone, which lists for $179 (on a 2-year contract with T-Mobile), was originally available only through the Google website. However, slow sales in the first week caused Google to call a quick audible and cut a deal to make it available in Wal-mart.
Unlike the iPhone, the Nexus will soon be available on multiple carriers. This spring the phone will also be available from Verizon and Vodafone. The Nexus joins a large family of devices using the Android OS. Currently there are 20 Android-powered phones available from 59 carriers in 48 countries.
