Sony Tries to Catch Up

Months ago we chronicled the continuing success of Sony in the personal electronics business. Its venerable line of Walkman products has continued to evolve with the transition to digital music players, even though it was long ago surpassed by Apple's iPod and other mp3 players. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Sony is planning on launching several new devices in the near future.

Among the new devices: a smartphone capable of downloading PlayStation games and a tablet-computing device designed to be a gaming and e-Reader platform which would compete with the upcoming Apple iPad.
