Facebook Adds Geo-location

Facebook is preparing to announce plans to allow users to share their location with friends, joining the legions of sites that are embracing location-based services. This puts Facebook in the company of sites primarily built on the concept of geo tagging like Foursquare, Loopt, Gowalla, Yelp, etc. It also allows Facebook to keep pace with other major online competitors like Google and Twitter have recently added location-based features.

Facebook will roll out the new service in April at f8, Facebook's annual developer's conference. Reportedly there will be two aspects to this feature. First, Facebook will offer its own internal feature to allow users to share their location. The second aspect is that Facebook will be offering the APIs for developers to create third party tools that utilize geo location.
