For a variety of reasons, the iPhone does not support Flash video...the most common standard that many sites use to serve video to users. Most web browsers use a Flash plug-in, but Apple has declined to support Flash for the iPhone through its Safari browser; the same is true for the iPad. But Brightcove has come up with a solution for publishers that use Brightcove's technology.
Brightcove will serve up videos in the open-source HTML5 format whenever it detects an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device. Users of other devices will continue to see Flash videos. Brightcove says that by the end of the year they will be able to have the same audience measurement and advertising features for the HTML5-viewed videos as for the Flash videos.
