A recent survey of 5,000 Internet users in the US and the UK found that 24% regularly play social games, such as Facebook's popular Farmville. These games are heavy on engagement. Of these game players, 95% say that they play multiple times each week and 64% say they play at least once a day! And the average session lasts more than half an hour, according to 64%.
The top responses to why players liked the games were, in order:
- Fun and Excitement - 53%
- Stress Relief - 45%
- Competitive Spirit - 43%
- Mental workout - 32%
Amazingly, for a category called "social gaming," only 28% of US players and 17% of the UK players cited "connect with others" as the primary motivation.
