Major League Baseball, through its digital arm MLBAM (Major League Baseball Advance Media), continues to be one of the most aggressive players in digital entertainment. Baseball has extended its reach again by offering subscriptions to its mlb.tv service via Sony's PlayStation 3 video console. The service costs $99.95 per season and allows subscribers to watch most major league baseball games (subject to various blackout restrictions) streamed live. For $119.95 MLBAM offers a premium service which allows choice between home and away broadcasts, DVR features and more.
Those who already subscribe to mlb.tv will be allowed to stream to their PSP3 consoles at no extra charge. MLB already has millions of subscribers to its mlb.tv online subscriptions and its popular smartphone apps, to go along with the Extra Innings pay TV service. Additionally, MLBAM's technology is used to power various other entertainment and sports websites and streaming services.
