DVD Going the Way of the CD?

Online streaming is the wave of the future for all types of media, from music in the cloud to streaming video services. Netflix, a company which has built a great business on old-fashioned physical media...not to mention snail mail, sees its own business moving in this direction at an accelerated rate.

A recent presentation by the company <http://www.businessinsider.com/awesome-the-future-of-netflix-and-tv-2010-6> predicts that the physical DVD rental market will peak in 2013 before streaming causes that portion of the business to start dropping. Within 15 years, the physical rental business will have virtually disappeared. The speed of the conversion to streaming can be seen in the number of video rental stores (especially Blockbuster) that are closing their doors. It's easier to just check your mailbox than walk across the street. But it will be easier still just to pick up the remote and order what you want.
