Sprint, the smallest of the big US mobile carriers has become the first to roll out a faster 4G mobile service with an accompanying handset. Unfortunately for the company, this news has often been overshadowed by the bigger carriers. In fact, the same day that Apple rolled out its new 4th generation iPhone, Sprint announced <http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN0720202720100607> that it set a record for one day sales with the HTC EDO handset, the first one designed to access the new 4G Sprint network.
4G service will be noticeably faster than 3G. Sprint has installed the 4G network in 33 cities so far. The company announced that the EVO handset set a new first day sales record for Sprint. Outside analysts confirm the brisk sales but say they don't compare with first day sales for any iteration of the iPhone.
By the way, the 4th generation iPhone that Steve Jobs showed to the public is not a 4G phone. This version of the iPhone has an upgraded camera, a slimmer shape and improved battery life, but it is not designed to access 4G networks.
