As we have been predicting for some time, Hulu finally rolled out its new subscription service. Users will pay $10/month to have HD (720p) access to a full season's worth of TV shows from ABC, NBC and Fox. Users will also have access to Hulu's complete catalog of programming. However, the new service will not be ad free. Users will continue to sit through a modest commercial load for each show.
The new Hulu Plus service adds access across multiple devices. Users can access the service via PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Samsung Blu-ray players and (eventually) PlayStation 3, Bravia TV and Blu-ray players, and Xbox 360.
What this means is that users get access to more episodes of shows. They'll get all of them, not just the last few. Also, there's access via more platforms. Initially, there has been criticism that the new subscription service is not ad free. Some think that "ad-supported subscription service" is an oxymoron; however, millions already do this via cable and satellite TV subs.
