Data from Nielsen <http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-cable-broadband-homes-2010-6?utm_source=Triggermail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=SAI_COTD_061710> shows that consumers are not dumping cable TV services in favor of broadband, the so-called Hulu effect. From January of 2008 to January 2010, cable subscriptions were up. Households with both cable and broadband services increased from 55% to 66%. Meanwhile, the percentage with just broadband held relatively steady at 3%. This means that, unlike the telephone markets, where many people are dropping landlines in favor of cell-phone-only status, consumers are not dropping cable services in favor of broadband.
