PMG Prediction for 2008: Social Aggregation: First Big 2008 Web 2.0 Story
Thursday, January 24, 2008
A number of Web 2.0 companies are trying to aggregate all of a person's profiles and services on the web into a central repository, whether it is via a feed or widget (MyBlogLog and Friendfeed) or a central service/website (Spock, Plaxo Pulse). One company will get it right and provide a comprehensive solution for people who want to be able to bring all of their online life together in one place.
We are close enough to this happening that it will be the first big Web 2.0 story of 2008. It's likely that this will come out of a Facebook application aimed at their users who want to bring all of their online life together easily on Facebook, but will also include a widget and external page for Internet users.

PMG Prediction for 2008: Terrestrial Radio Finally Goes 360 Degrees
Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Terrestrial radio can't afford to lose any more ground to other audio distribution channels. The combination of open mobile platforms, the importance of streaming Internet audio, and pressure from disruptive audio content sources will lead radio to finally take a 360° approach to its content, utilizing broadcast radio, HD radio, Internet streaming, and mobile phone streaming.
In countries like the US, where radio is mostly local, the 360° concept will lead to the beginnings of brand extension of radio stations beyond their city of license. Going beyond simply a few expatriates looking to reconnect with their hometown stations, radio brand extension will include regional and national powerhouses extending beyond their signal range.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008
In the wake of Radiohead's successful "pay what you want" release of In Rainbows, we will see labels and media companies use the same concept this year.
In partnership with an established (although not a superstar) artist, at least one major label will replicate Radiohead's "pay what you want" experiment. While doneprimarily for the hype and press itwould generate, the label will payclose attention to the results with theidea that this type of release may bethe most efficient for catalog and nicheacts with strong but smaller fan bases. Independent producers and artists willalso embrace the model.

PMG Prediction for 2008: DRM Ends For Free Music
Monday, January 21, 2008
By the middle of 2008, the sale of individual songs and albums that include DRM will effectively end. The only music files that will utilize DRM will be those that are downloaded from subscription services. While we are seeing the sale of DRM-free songs today from all the music labels, the sale of music with DRM continues. That will end in 2008.
