At the recent New Music Seminar <http://digitalmusicnews.com/stories/072110pandora> , music executives in various parts of the business compared nots on the state of the industry. Some of the more interesting information camee from Pandora. The topline data included the facts that the service has surpassed 60 million total listeners in the U.S. and that, of those, Pandora's CEO, Joe Kennedy said that over 22 million had listened "in the last few days" before the presentation.
Kennedy also dug deeper into the stats on the artists featured on Pandora. He said that the service has over 90,000 artists in its system, available for airplay. Yet most of the music served up to users comes from signed artists. Furthermore, only 30% of the unsigned ats that submit music to Pandora have their music accepted. And unsigned artists are required by the service to make their albums available for sale through Amazon.
