Blackberry in Trouble?

RIM's Blackberry has lost a lot of momentum lately. Nielsen published a study <http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-smartphone-os-2010-8#ixzz0w8nZPahi> that shows that many Blackberry owners are considering dumping their devices in favor of iPhones or Android devices. RIM is hoping to arrest that slide with its new Blackberry Torch 9800. The Nielsen study, done before the unveiling of the Torch, showed that 56% of Blackberry users were planning on switching to a new device in the near future.

The new platform of choice for Blackberry users was evenly split between the iPhone and Android. Of particular concern to RIM are 2 things: 1) for the first time ever, in the second quarter of 2010, more Android devices were sold than Blackberry's, and 2) the rumors are heating up again that AT&T will be losing its iPhone exclusivity, opening the door for Verizon to become the second US carrier.
