Mobile Video Growth Numbers

Market research company eMarketers is projecting <http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2010/08/06/report-mobile-video-revenues-hit-134-billion-2014> mobile video services to grow from just over half a billion dollars this year to $1.34 billion by 2014. This figure includes their projection for revenue from all sources: an advertising-supported model, paid downloads, and subscription services. The ad-supported component is expected to generate just $35.1 million this year, but grow by 60% a year through 2014.

As more smartphones - and tablet devices - hit the market, the hunger for mobile video grows rapidly. Smart phones dominate the sales of mobile devices now in the U.S., and a number of electronics manufacturers are planning on rolling out tablet devices. The success of the Android and Apple iPhone/iPad operating systems has driven most of that increase so far, but other platforms can be expected to join in the gold rush too.
