Within the last few weeks Apple announced changes <http://tinyurl.com/2by68g2> to its standards for app developers. Among the notable changes was the relaxing of restrictions on using Adobe's Flash. Developers can now use Flash...but not for video. Apple released this statement regarding the change:
"We are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need,"
The first question that many have asked is, without video Flash, what's the point? The answer is that many games use Flash. iPhone and (especially) iPad are becoming more popular gaming platforms and this move will allow Apple to still maintain tight control over its platform, while also making their devices able to handle more sophisticated games.
