On-Demand Gains Momentum

We've known for a long time that consumers want to embrace content on their terms, in other words, on demand. We wrote about this at length in our New Media Landscape report (available via hg@pollackmedia.com). Today, Disney made a huge announcement on the on demand front, announcing that four of its shows from ABC and soon five from the Disney Channel, would be available for free via the Internet the day after broadcast on terrestrial TV.

Emmy Awards Name Broadband Show Nominees

The Emmy Awards last year instituted an award in the category of "non-traditional viewing," which was aimed specifically at Internet and related broadcasts. This year the nominees include content from an amazing array of sources, including mobile phone content, video blog content, and broadband live broadcasts.
BBC Appoints US Digital Head

Few companies are as aggressive as the BBC in the digital space. They have moved even further in that direction by naming a head of digital for BBC America, Gill Pritchard. Pritchard will be working on building new revenue streams for all BBC products across distribution channels.
