Netflix Streaming Rights Fees Skyrocket

Recently we've discussed the fast growing video-streaming segment of online activity. A good chunk of that growth is attributable to Netflix ongoing conversion from a mail-order DVD rental service into an online streaming service. Netflix is rapidly building its streaming service, and it's paying dearly for the privilege.

All Things Digital's tracking <http://tinyurl.com/2d5wcu7> of the streaming deals indicates that Netflix will be on the hook for $2 billion in rights fees just for 2011 for streaming movies and TV shows. The latest deals they've reported on are a new 5-year deal with Epix and an extension of their existing one with Starz.
