A study from mobile ad company Millennial Media suggests that Windows Phone 7 is as important to app developers and publishers as the iPad. Millennial's survey shows that as many companies are interested in developing new apps of the Windows 7 Phone as for the iPad during 2011. By now it should be no surprise that the #1 platform that publishers are targeting is Android. The iPhone ranks 5th.
To put these rankings in perspective, these are for new apps. The iPhone already has a huge lead in apps, although as we've pointed out, Android is slowly catching up. And developing apps specifically for the iPad (as opposed to apps that run on both) requires more time and money. Therefore, the fact that the Windows 7 Phone is on a par with the iPad, and well ahead of RIM's Blackberry performance, has to be seen as a good sign.
