Nielsen data from October shows that 29.7% of mobile subscribers had a smartphone, with that number expected to increase rapidly. But the most interesting piece of information to come from their recent study shows an interesting difference between women and men. According to that study women who purchase smartphones are more likely to opt for an iPhone, while men are more likely to go for a Droid.
These two systems are driving the growth in smartphone usage, which has doubled in the last year. Android, the newest of the smartphone operating systems, has been making up ground rapidly this year. Google’s OS now ranks a close 3rd in the race for the top spot in smartphone market share. Here’s how the competition shakes out:
