Tablets Break Through

Forrester research is predicting that 1/3 of all US households will own a tablet computing device by 2015. According to the Forrester data, 10.3 million tablets were sold in the US in 2010. That number is expected to more than double to 24 million this year and over 44 million by 2015. By then, Forrester predicts, 82 million people will own a tablet device.

Apple is expected to continue to be the dominant player. Forrester's prediction is that Apple will hold the top spot through at least 2012. However, every PC manufacturer is developing at least one new tablet device. Many will be based on Google's Android OS; others will be built on proprietary platforms. Tablets are one of the dominant technologies in this year's CES.
