Here’s the conclusion of our series on interesting new technologies from this year’s CES, by Pollack Media Group president, Tommy Hadges:
Among other interesting items, Lady Gaga generated a lot of attention as she demonstrated a prototype of Polaroid’s GL20 sunglasses, which contain a camera & 2 outward-facing 1.5” OLED screens to display photos; they are due on the market by the end of 2011. Veho displayed its Muvi Atom, a fully functional $100 minicam for hands-free use that measures a tiny 1.5”H x 1.0”W x 0.5”D. Canadian company Copia unveiled its new social network, which is completely based on books. Eton displayed its Soulra, a compact solar-powered dock charger & sound system for the iPod & iPhone, priced at $200.
The most-bizarre product I spotted was the Splat ElectroClean, a $5 glob of re-usable putty that is designed to remove dust & debris from the nooks & crannies in electronic equipment. Lastly, the “most fun” award goes to Microsoft’s series of rooms displaying its Kinect motion-sensing gaming controller for the Xbox 360; watching so many CES attendees using their bodies to play video games provided some welcome relief from the goal of visiting the exhibits of the 2,500 companies that were displaying their products at CES 2011.
