Prior to Apple's iPad 2 launch event, various media outlets have speculated that Apple may not wait a full year to introduce a 3rd generation of the iPad. Most of the speculation about iPad 2 turned out to be correct, so guessing now turns to what might be in the next iteration. Much of it centers on the iPad's screen. Here's the early line on what might happen next:
- Anti-glare screen - This would be a significant upgrade. The difficulty of reading in the sunlight is one of the biggest criticisms of the iPad (and iPhone), especially when compared to other devices, such as the Amazon Kindle.
- Smaller screen size - Other manufacturers are releasing 7-inch tablet models, but Apple, so far, is sticking with its 9-inch configuration. In fact, Steve Jobs recently took pains to say that the smaller screen size would make the device less desirable.
- Retina Display - The new iPad will not duplicate the iPhone 4's retina display. Concerns including battery life kept Apple from using the same kind of resolution that the iPhone now uses for the iPad 2, but most observers expect Apple to solve that for the next model.
