We reported earlier about Time Warner’s new iPad app that allows its subscribers to watch channels they subscribe to within their own homes. However, a number of content producers are unhappy and have demanded that Time Warner exempt their programming. Bloomberg reports <http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-30/news-corp-s-fox-tells-time-warner-cable-to-halt-use-of-channels-on-ipad.html> that Scripps network Interactive and News Corp. have insisted that Time Warner not allow their channels to be streamed.
To date Time Warner’s app has 32 channels available for streaming. This will be an interesting situation to watch as Time Warner maintains that there is no out-of-home viewing and the subscribers are authenticated only for the channels to which they subscribe. Scripps and News Corp. maintain that carriage rights do not include the rights to stream.
