Sony recently announced a new approach to fighting declining DVD sales. They’ve lowered the price for downloads of some of their movies. The DVDs of movies such as “The Tourist” and “How Do You Know” sell for $15 each on Amazon. Sony has reduced the price <http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20046430-261.html> for the download of each to $12.99.
It hasn’t received as much coverage as the drop in music CD sales or newspaper circulation, but the film industry has seen DVD sales take a big tumble over the past few years. Replacing that revenue is important since the industry has counted on DVD sales, in most cases, to surpass the revenue from ticket sales.
