If you’ve ever lived in England or even spent time there you know “mind the gap” is a warning you get before stepping from a solid platform on to a moving vehicle.
It occurred to me the other day, that I am now living in the gap.
This gap is not something to step over, it’s something I need to settle in to.
I’ll be honest, the gap is a bit scary.
There was everything I thought I knew about life. There was everything I thought I was, and there was everything I thought I wanted to be. All these preconceived notions and ideas have been challenged and stripped away.
Through experiences, personal expansion, illness and loss, unforeseen circumstances, and the flow of life they are gone now.
This sounds like a bad thing, but it's not.
Scary? Yes. Unfortunate? No.
Our biggest growth comes when we face our fears head on.
I have stepped off the platform, but the train has not arrived yet.
I’m poised over the gap. There is no next logical step. The only step is a leap, and it is a leap of faith.
Faith that I will not fall or stay hovering forever. Faith that the perfect vehicle for my continued forward motion, growth and fulfillment will arrive exactly on time.
My ego tells me "mind the gap.” My soul tells me to jump and trust that I will soar.
“And I'm floating in a most peculiar way, and the stars look very different today.” -David Bowie
Next week we'll talk about living with abandon.
