When we're born we know nothing.
Our body takes care of itself in terms of breathing, heartbeat, and elimination. Everything else needs to be taught to us.
We first learn the fundamentals, like how to crawl and then walk and talk.
Very soon after learning how to speak, we are taught, what's acceptable to say, and even what's acceptable to think.
Our innate personal preferences, desires and tendencies get eradicated before fully forming.
We CONFORM, instead of form. We bend to the standards of our family and society, and we are applauded for it.
This indoctrination happens mostly without us knowing it, and without the indoctrinators knowing that's what they are doing (because they were indoctrinated too).
Many people live their whole lives pushing their inner voice down, ignoring their soul’s yearnings while condemning themselves for feeling different.
So many people hide their true selves from others and from themselves.
For others, however, mid-life presents an opportunity,
An opportunity to "stop playing the game". It's an opportunity to make one’s own rules, and follow one’s own longings. To choose to ignore the outside voices and to focus within.
One of the messages from the indoctrination process in the Western world is that there is shame in getting older.
There are many reasons for this, one of the most apparent being the amount of money being made on "anti-aging" everything.
If done correctly, however, growing older means growing wiser, more self-aware, accepting and in touch with our true selves.
A mid-life "crisis" is when you go out and do all the things society says are solely for the young. A mid-life opportunity is when you re-evaluate everything you were ever taught and decide who you REALLY are and what you REALLY want. A mid-life success story is when you start taking the steps to un-become who you were told to be and become who you were MEANT to be.
