The Grief that Comes With Growth

Our personal growth journey brings with it beautiful gifts, like realizing what is really important and what is not.
We learn the reasons and motivations behind our own behavior and the behavior of others.
We learn humility, grace and compassion.
We learn to slow down and appreciate more.
We learn to lean into what we can control, and surrender to what we cannot.
Along with the gift of knowledge can also come a bit of sadness.
We may go through a grieving process full of wistfulness. We may mourn the time we feel has been wasted and wonder about how things "could have been," if only we had the knowledge that we have now.
This is all part of the process and is completely normal.
I encourage you to visit the sadness, feel it completely, and then let it move on.
You don't want to get stuck in the "what ifs" and "should haves," because if you get stuck there you are just perpetuating old habits.
The new you knows better.
The truth of the matter is, it couldn't have happened any other way.
Life is about learning, knowledge, growth and ideally becoming the most empowered version of ourselves.
Once a baby learns to walk, they don't waste time thinking about how much more they could have accomplished had they only learned to walk SOONER.
They just move forward with their new knowledge and skillset.
And so should we.
Life is not a race. There is no timeline.
It truly is about the PROCESS. Enjoy it, marvel at it and most of all, embrace it.
